Privacy Policy

Last updated: August 2026

The short version

  • No account, no sign-up, no advertising and no selling of data.
  • Your location stays in your browser, it never reaches our servers.
  • Saved places and your theme are stored on your device.
  • We record anonymous usage events to see which deals are useful.

Who we are

Meet me after 5 ("we", "our", "us") is an independent, English-first guide to Tel Aviv happy hours. This policy explains what we do with information when you use the app. It is written to meet Israel's Privacy Protection Law, 5741-1981 and, where it applies to visitors from Europe, the GDPR and UK GDPR. For any privacy question, email hello@meetmeafter5.app.

1. Information we collect

No account information. There is no sign-up, no password and no profile. We never ask for your name, phone number or email unless you choose to contact us or submit a venue.

Saved places and preferences. Your saved places, the signals behind "My After 5", your light/dark choice, whether you have seen the intro tour and a random session identifier are stored in your browser's local storage.

Location. If you tap "Use my location", your browser asks your permission and shares your coordinates with the app so places can be sorted by walking distance. This happens on your device only and we never store your location.

Submissions. If you suggest a place, report incorrect information, upload a photo of a happy hour or email us, we store what you send so we can verify it and reply.

Usage analytics. We record anonymous usage events, such as page views, venue views, searches, filter use and taps on "Directions" or "Tell a friend", each tied to a random identifier and a timestamp, never to your identity.

2. How we use your information

To show you accurate, currently valid happy hours; to sort places by walking distance in the moment; to build your personal shortlist on your device; to verify and publish submissions and reply to messages; and to understand in aggregate which parts of the app are useful so we can improve them. We do not profile you and we do not attempt to re-identify anonymous events.

3. Carrying your saved places across

If you install the app to your home screen, your browser and the installed app may keep separate storage. To bridge that, the app can back up your saved places, preferences and theme against a random device code that you can also enter manually. That backup contains no name, email or location, only the venue IDs you saved and your settings, and clearing the app's data on your device stops it being used.

4. Sharing and service providers

We do not sell, rent or trade your information, and we do not share it with advertisers. We rely on a small number of providers to run the app: our hosting and database provider (which stores anonymous analytics events, submissions and photo uploads), our product-analytics and web-analytics providers, and Google Maps for the map view. Loading the map means Google receives your IP address under its own privacy policy. We may also disclose information where the law requires it, or to protect our rights and the safety of others.

5. Cookies and device storage

We do not use advertising, profiling or cross-site tracking cookies, and there is no cookie wall. What we do use is strictly necessary storage on your device (your saved places, your theme, a random analytics identifier) plus cookies our hosting and analytics providers may set to keep the service working and count visits in aggregate. Clearing this site's data in your browser removes all of it.

6. Legal bases

Where the GDPR applies, we rely on: your consent for browser location (which you can withdraw at any time); our legitimate interest in running and improving a free, ad-free guide, for anonymous usage statistics; and the performance of your request when you send us a submission or an email. Where Israeli law applies, providing information to us is always voluntary and you are not legally obliged to give us anything.

7. Where your data is processed

Our hosting, database and analytics providers operate servers outside Israel, including in the EU and the United States, so information you send us may be processed there. We only use providers that offer recognised safeguards for international transfers, such as the European Commission's standard contractual clauses.

8. Data retention

Location data is never stored. Anything held on your device stays until you clear it. Anonymous analytics events are kept in aggregate for product decisions. Submissions, photos and emails are kept while the listing is live and for a reasonable period afterwards so we can track why a venue changed. Device backups are kept until the code is unused for an extended period or you ask us to delete it.

9. Security

Data is transmitted over HTTPS and stored with access controls at our hosting provider. Because we collect so little, no accounts, no passwords, no payment details and no location history, there is very little about you to lose. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, so we cannot promise absolute security.

10. Your choices and rights

You can clear saved places, preferences and the analytics identifier at any time by clearing this site's data in your browser, and you can revoke location permission in your browser or device settings. If you are in the EEA or UK, you can also ask for a copy, correction or deletion of anything we hold about a message or submission you sent us: email hello@meetmeafter5.app and we will respond within 30 days. Israeli residents have equivalent rights of review and correction under the Privacy Protection Law. If you are unhappy with our answer, you can complain to your local data protection authority, or in Israel to the Privacy Protection Authority.

11. Children

The app lists venues serving alcohol and is intended for people of legal drinking age in Israel. It is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect their data.

12. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. Any change will be posted on this page with a new date above. See also our Terms & Conditions and the FAQ.
